MCE assisted PSRCP Architects on the LEED Platinum Heifer International World Headquarters building in Little Rock, Ark. The site was designed with sustainability and conservation in mind. The property covers approximately 22 acres of previously developed warehouses in East downtown Little Rock. MCE was the lead civil engineer on this project and worked specifically on layout, grading, drainage, parking and utility plans.

The parking lot at Heifer International Headquarters is unlike any other MCE has designed. The drive lanes are a light colored concrete to reflect the sun’s rays and dissipate the heat island effect. The actual parking spaces are located on a pervious pavement system known as Gravel Pave that allows the water to percolate back into the soil. The parking area is also segmented and a majority of the drainage is directed above ground into bioswales, areas planted with wildflowers and other vegetation, where the velocity is reduced and the water is also allowed to percolate back into the soil or flow into raised catch basins.
